Annual Report 2007
In 2007 ElderHealth Northwest took large strides forward in our mission to help individuals with chronic or terminal illness and disabilities to continue living in the community and with their families. Did you know that over 75% of all long-term care is provided by families and other unpaid caregivers? ElderHealth is often the critical variable that enables these caregivers to continue by providing them with support and respite.

ElderHealth helped more individuals than ever before in 2007, and we're proud of our accomplishments and gratified to receive both local and national recognition for our work. Find out more in our annual report.

Welcome National Service Volunteers!
No services. No money. Disaster.

While that may sound like a particularly dire economic forecast, it actually encompasses the challenges faced by our newest national service volunteers, who will work to make sure that elders receive services, develop our fundraising capacity and provide guidance in our disaster preparedness planning.

This summer and fall we have a number of new national service volunteers beginning a path of service at ElderHealth Northwest:

* At our South Seattle adult day health center, Jesuit Volunteer Corps member Maggie Halley came from New York to join Lutheran Volunteer Corps member Melissa Green, who is continuing for a second year of service.

* Downtown Seattle adult day health center welcomes Lutheran Volunteer Corps member Julie Bender, who just moved here from California.

* Our new Marysville adult day health center welcomes AmeriCorps Volunteer John White, a recent graduate of Western Washington University.

* Linda Chen joins our downtown Seattle administrative offices as a VISTA member affiliated with Washington State Ready Corps. Her focus is on business resiliency, aka disaster preparedness.

* Later this year, Margaret LaValley and Joseph Lofgren will relocate from Minnesota to start their VISTA service as King County Outreach Coordinator and ElderFriends Resource Development Coordinator, respectively.

* VISTA member Joel Capella is our new Snohomish County Serices Outreach Coordinator. Joel joins us following retirement from the Seattle Times. Joel says of his new position: "I'm excited about ElderHealth Northwest and I feel fortunate to be in a position to serve at this point in my life. These are my people!"

We are currently recruiting for one more AmeriCorps position to start by October 1 in Marysville. To view the position description, follow the link below.

Senior Services Launches Videography Venture
Story Tell offers photo and video recording and transfer services to preserve exciting and valuable legacies. The project helps capture cherished family stories, anecdotes or words of wisdom passed down from a parent, grandparent or favorite relative.

Stories are recorded at Senior Services in Belltown. The interview room is large enough to accommodate the story teller and a friend or family member who is recruited to ask the questions that prompt telling the special story. If desired, interview questions are provided.

The finished product is a one-hour, unedited audio CD or DVD. Editing services are also available.

The new business also produces personal recorded greetings that can be a special treat for birthdays, holidays and other special occasions. To learn more about Story Tell, call (206) 448-5757 or follow the link below.

The Memory Walk is a non-competitive fundraising celebration aimed to raise awareness and funds in our local community.

An estimated 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease today, and that number continues to climb as our population ages. Since 1989, the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk has raised $230 million for Alzheimer care, support and research.

Together we can get moving to help end a disease that claims millions of lives annually.
